If, like me, you’ve been hearing a lot recently about the alkaline diet, you might be wondering what it is. More importantly, does it really work? If so, how does it work? In this article, I’ll provide you with some information to help you understand the alkaline diet revolution.

What is the purpose of the alkaline diet?

In the past, studies have shown that cancer thrives in an acidic environment, which others have then concluded means our bodies should be adjusted to compensate for this fact. To do this, it would mean consuming foods that’ll lower the pH of your blood, thereby making it more alkaline. Hence, the alkaline diet.

The proponents of the alkaline diet believe that eating certain foods causes your body to produce acid, and so the reverse means that other foods will cause your body to become more alkaline. Therefore, they believe that changing your body’s pH will improve your health and lower your risk of cancer.

Does the alkaline diet work?

Although the diet itself hasn’t undergone major scientific testing, it is believed that the alkaline diet can positively affect your pH level. This is usually around 7.4, which actually makes our bodies a relatively neutral environment normally. Our body’s pH is very strictly regulated because it allows all the different processes in our body to function.

However, the diet mainly enforces eating more vegetables and cutting back on processed foods, meat and sugar. Similarly, most of the foods recommended on the diet plan are high in anti-inflammatory properties, making them helpful for fighting illness.

Should I consider the alkaline diet to improve my health?

If you’re thinking of making any major change to your diet or lifestyle, it’s always worth speaking to a doctor first. They’ll be able to advise you on the best course of action by assessing your current state of health, and perhaps putting you in contact with a nutritionist to work out a suitable diet plan.

However, those that have tried the alkaline diet in the past have shown incredible results in their energy levels, digestion and sleep. Neutralizing the acidity in the body allows for it to function optimally.

I recommend researching typical alkaline diet food plans, as the recommended foods are very good for you, such as fruits, nuts, legumes and vegetables. Whether or not the alkaline diet is as effective as it claims to be, the fact that it is reinforcing these highly nutritious food groups can only be beneficial for our health.
